Important Bidstation Update Details
Version 1.9.7 or earlier will need to be replaced.
Bidstation’s had a major upgrade that impacts those who used it in 2024 or earlier. This is because we’ve replaced the database engine that powers Bidstation’s functionality from Access to SQL (typically said like “Sea-Quill”). So previous versions with Access databases will not be compatible.
Why did we do this?
Ongoing challenges with Access and its compatibility with the newer Office 365 caused several persistent issues without clear solutions. We know how important Bidstation’s stability and reliability is and saw that changing to SQL would be the best option.
What’s changed?
The new Bidstation will look and feel like the old one, with few changes and no new learning curve. The changes were to the back-end.
By upgrading Bidstation’s engine to the SQL database, the issues we were having with Access have been resolved. A nice bonus is that it also enhances the speed and responsiveness of the program, making it faster to input data like Winning Bids and Other Bids.
How might this update impact you?
Older Access versions will need to be uninstalled (removed) before moving to the SQL version. This includes removing SAP Crystal Reports and the Access Database Engines (some computers may have 2 versions of Access Engine – both need to be removed). Before removing, consider whether you need to export any data from your Access database in Bidstation, such as attendees or items, that you might want to import into the new Bidstation. The Access database can always also be opened directly in MS Access where you can likewise export data, but it may be easier to do so with Bidstation before uninstalling it.
Where can the new Bidstation be downloaded?
The Bidstation installer can be downloaded from our website by either logging into and existing account to access license keys and downloads, or by signing up for the free trial. If a valid Bidstation license is available, it may be used to register and unlock the full version.
